December 2019 - fliQ
I decided to put out a game from different genres every month. This month I set out the create a RTS card game. I researched a little bit but couldn't find many examples. Actually that was the reason I wanted to make an RTS card game but I decided that format didn't go well with medieval, Age of Empires feel.
Then I set out to create a turn based card game. It quickly turned into a Civilization like combat system where cards fight each other in hexes. That didn't satisfy me because there was nothing unique in that idea, it wasn't really a card game and I didn't have enough time to finish such a game.
After that I designed another unique card game where combat system was influenced by Crusader Kings' battle system and Dota Underlord's alliance system. However that would also take a long time and frankly I was bored of the idea of a card game.
During that time I played King of Dragon Pass and thought I could make a similar game with simpler features. I set out to do it. I sketched all UI and realized it in Unity. Then started to work on the map. But I quickly realized that I won't be able to finish this game too. Also, this would have been a bad replica, a noob attempt to create a strategy game and nothing more.
In the last week I was desperate and found my old project fliQ which I developed for mobile but never finished and published. So, I took it and made into PC, added three levels and a little polishing.
I came up with the idea of fliQ in Bioinformatics class while studying genetic sequencing back in my university days. I took what we were doing on paper for genetic sequencing and made it simpler and more colorful. Hope you enjoy it.
